End of the month
September is about over. This month will go down with a whopping total of 9 posts on the blog. One of the lowest in a while. But on the other hand, the bandwidth on the site is one the highest in a while thanks to the video I posted about the tornado from my last post. To date, it has been downloaded 517 times with over 8 gigabytes of bandwidth. I am glad I switched to VizaWeb a while back, my previous hosting service didn't have that much bandwidth.

Rita is nothing to mess with

This hurricane is currently the third strongest Atlantic hurricane on record in terms of central pressure. I thought we couldn't see anything stronger than Katrina was a few weeks ago. What surprises me is that this hurricane 24 hours ago wasn't that strong (looking at the whole scheme of things) and has turned into a killer category 5 storm. If you are near the path of this storm, get out now!

Few changes on the blog
I did a few minor changes on the main page of the blog. I removed the links to the Archived sites. I also added the top stores from Digg.com on the left sidebar. Hope you enjoy.

Where were you four years ago on Sept 11, 2001? I don't think anyone would not know the answer to that question. It has almost been four years since our lives were changed and we realized that Terrorists can attack Americans in the country. As I have done for the past years, I will post a special splash page on Chris-Place.com for all day on Sept 11th. Take a moment and think about everyone who suffered and lost their lives on that clear Tuesday morning.

The 10 Geek Commandments
1. Thou shalt not append trendy names to shit that already exists in an attempt to remarket it. (i.e. - podcast)
2. Thou shalt not bitch about windows if you are reading this from a windows machine.
3. Thou shalt not drink beer on a couch in the beginning of a vidcast unless your name is kevin rose, dan huard or alex albrecht. ...and even then, thou shalt be subject to ridicule and slapping at random.
4. Thou shall admit that linux is only good for bragging rights and elitism.
5. Thou shall buy a $4000 gaming rig to play the two good games that come out this year before the third game is released, which renders your rig obsolete.
6. Thou shall buy a $2000 computer to surf the web. Everyone knows you'll need all that processing power to handle the virii, spyware and trojans you'll be hosting.
7. Thou shall scour rss feeds to find topics for your podcast rather than actually participating in any forums, conferences or other means of actually gathering news on your own.
8. Thou shalt not brag about stealing movies, not because it's illegal... but because my mom has WinMX too.
9. Thou shalt not digg anything you've read on freshnews. We all read freshnews. Just stop.
10. Thou shalt not buy an ipod as an accesory to your daily fashion, but only because it's a good mp3 player with acceptable battery life.
NOTE: We are guilty of at least one of the above. The key is to remember these rules as general guidelines, rather than aspiring to be guilty of all of them.

Refugees will be coming here.
Look at this article from today's Anniston Star
Officials: McClellan will be used to house evacuees
By Brian Lyman
Star Staff Writer
09-01-2005, 12:18 p.m.
After a whirlwind series of moves by Anniston officials, Alabama Gov. Bob Riley and the Federal Emergency Management Agency have decided the former military police barracks, or "starships," at McClellan will accept refugees from the hurricane-devastated areas.
A "strike team" from FEMA was headed to McClellan on Thursday morning to assess the buildings and determine the extent of work needed to prepare for an estimated 1,000 people. Scott Bradshaw, property manager for the Joint Powers Authority, which oversees McClellan, said contractors were turning on water and electrical hook-ups in the building. The work will continue through the Labor Day weekend.
No date has been set for the opening of the building; Bradshaw said the weekend work will determine when refugees can arrive.
Riley toured the building Thursday morning with Anniston mayor Chip Howell and other officials. Anniston, he said, was the first community to offer a building to house refugees. As many as 10,000 people may need shelter in Alabama.
"We’re looking everywhere," Riley said. "We’re looking at individual residences. But there are very few places that are as unique as what we have here."

The looting situation is getting out of control
I have been watching the news on and off today and there has been a lot of talk today about the looting going on in New Orleans. I understand there is a lack of food and water and they need those things in order to survive. If I were in that sort of situation, who knows if I would be forced to steal food from a closed store in order to keep myself and my family alive. But the last time I checked, you didn't need shoes or clothes or music or TVs to survive. That is the part that makes me so mad about this situation. Take a look at these pictures below from looters in a Wal-Mart store. These images are from NBC10.com.
